Vince Gilligan Shares He Knows How The Apple TV+ Show Might Finish... For Now.

The creative mastermind could not have predicted that his new science-fiction series would emerge as a cultural phenomenon. “God bless the fans,” he remarks. “I was surprised by the show being as talked about as it is, and it makes me thrilled beyond words.”

As the debut season of the acclaimed program coming to an end—and a second season already in development—the creative team opened up about the audience reaction and whether it will impact the narrative path of Pluribus.

About the Incredible Fan Response

One could easily to get distracted by the rampant praise and fan theories regarding Pluribus. He is making a conscious effort to ignore the noise.

“It feels like an endless supply of hot fudge sundaes and being in a state of bliss,” he describes. “It's wonderful, but I get wind of it from others, and that's by design. I have never Googled myself, nor do I ever intend to. Not because I don't care. It's a rabbit hole I know I would fall into and then I'd be never leaving the house from Home Depot and I'd be stuck in my living room.”

In spite of trying to stay away, there’s no escaping the immensely favorable response to the series. The most practical strategy is to take it in stride and try not to let it influence the direction of the show.

“It is not our goal to adjust our writing,” says writer and executive producer Alison Tatlock. “The plot we develop is not impacted by online forums.”

“It's wiser to keep our heads down and working,” Gilligan concludes.

The Big Question: Has the creator See the Finale of Pluribus?

Considering the creative staff aren’t being guided by fan response, does that mean they have already decided how Pluribus will reach its endpoint? In short yes… in a way.

“We've developed some potential directions about how the story could conclude,” Gilligan says. “but we are always ready to discard a good idea for a more brilliant plan. This approach has served us in excellent shape on Better Call Saul and on Breaking Bad even before that. We scrap ideas when we get a better idea and I imagine we will be doing that.”

Alternatively, if they hit a wall, director and writer Gordon Smith has a pretty funny idea to fall back on.

“I keep pitching that the entire story is inside a snow globe, and that we'll pull back at the end and we're in there,” Smith quips, “though the idea hasn't gained traction.”

Alternatively, why mess with the classics?

“I want Carol to wake up in bed with Bob Newhart there,” he jokes.

Pluribus can be watched on the streaming service.
