It is a favorable article in a periodical that the president has long exalted – with one exception. The front-page image, the president decreed, "may be the Worst of All Time".
Time magazine's tribute to Donald Trump's part in brokering a ceasefire in Gaza, featured on its November 10 cover, was accompanied by a photo of the president captured from underneath while the sun behind his head.
The effect, Trump claims, is "super bad".
"Time wrote a quite favorable story about me, but the photo may be the most awful ever", he shared on his social media platform.
“They eliminated my hair, and then had a shape drifting on top of my head that appeared as a hovering tiara, but an extremely small one. Quite bizarre! I never liked taking pictures from low perspectives, but this is a extremely poor picture, and should be criticized. Why did they do this, and why?”
Donald Trump has shown obvious his ambition to appear on Time’s cover and achieved this four times last year. This fixation has made it as far as Trump’s golf clubs – previously, the magazine asked him to remove fabricated front pages on display at several of his venues.
The most recent cover image was shot by Graeme Sloane for a news agency at the presidential residence on October 5.
Its angle did no favours for his chin and neck area – an opening that the governor of California Newsom seized, with his press office tweeting a version with the offending area pixelated.
{The hostages from Israel detained in Gaza have been released under the opening part of the president's diplomatic initiative, in exchange for a freeing of Palestinian inmates. This agreement may become a defining accomplishment of the president's renewed tenure, and it might signify a strategic turning point for that part of the world.
Meanwhile, a defense of his portrayal has been offered by unusual quarters: the spokesperson at the Russian foreign ministry came forward to criticise the "damaging" picture decision.
"It’s astonishing: a photo exposes those who chose it than about the person in it. Just unwell persons, people obsessed with malice and animosity –perhaps even perverts – could have chosen such a photo", the official shared on Telegram.
In light of the positive pictures of Biden that the periodical featured on the front, despite his physical infirmity, the case is self-damaging for the publication", she said.
The answer to his queries – what were Time’s editors doing, and why? – may be something to do with artistically representing a feeling of authority stated by Carly Earl, Guardian Australia’s picture editor.
"The actual photo itself technically is good," she explains. "They chose this shot because they wanted the president to look heroic. Staring up at someone creates an impression of their majesty and Trump’s face actually looks thoughtful and almost somewhat divine. It’s not often you see photos of Trump in such a serene moment – the image has a softness to it."
The president's hair looks erased because the rear illumination has bleached that section of the image, producing a glowing aura, she explains. Even though the feature's heading marries well with his facial expression in the image, "one cannot constantly gratify the subject matter."
Few people appreciate being captured from low angles, and although all of the thematic components of the image are quite powerful, the aesthetics are unflattering."
The publication approached Time magazine for a statement.
