The Mighty Nein's Introductory Sequence Selected the Wrong Critical Role Song

This latest animated series, the newest animated series from the beloved role-playing group, revealed an exciting introductory sequence. It features our favorite cast of misfits, misfits, and rogues fighting hard and making their mark, while also hinting at several heart-wrenching personal histories for key figures including Liam O'Brien's mage Caleb, and Travis Willingham's orc warlock, Fjord.

Overall, the opening looks stunning. However, I felt that an element was missing in the music selection.

This sequence employs "Welcome to Wildemount", a truly stellar song created by artist the talented musician. It's a track from the soundtrack album of the same name, the second release released by the production company's record label Scanlan Shorthalt Music. It's a great sentimental choice, and I believe that devotees of the sequel series will love its inclusion.

Personally, The Mighty Nein's intro fails to capture the hype and energy that accompanied the show's live-play sessions. "Your Turn to Roll", composed by musician Jason Charles Miller, was an instant classic for me when it was first revealed in that year, and it only got better when cast member Sam Riegel added lyrics to the melody for the animated Campaign 2 opening in 2018.

Including singing from Ashley Johnson, another performer, a co-star, as well as the writer, the track was memorable and fun. At the time, I hadn't seen the second campaign at that point, but it was so infectious that I still saved it on my phone. It's a song that excites you before you start an installment of fantasy hijinks.

The Mighty Nein's intro with "Welcome to Wildemount" doesn't strike the same chords in my opinion. It's an impressive composition, but from what I know of the group, I feel that its mood is somewhat mismatched.

Naturally, the creators has already said that the series will have a few surprises and differences from the actual-play campaign. A tonal change for its intro appears as one of them.
