Former President Donald Trump announced on Sunday that he has asked the family of a Guard member killed last week to visit the presidential home.
He added that he contacted her family and they were “deeply grieving”.
Soldier Sarah Beckstrom, twenty years old, was killed in a violent incident on last Wednesday in DC.
Her colleague, Staff Sgt Andrew Wolfe, twenty-four years old, is still in the hospital in critical condition.
Vigils across the state have taken place in their honor.
The president explained he’s talked about a visit to the White House for the parents of both soldiers of the state Guard.
“I stated: ‘When you’re ready, because that’s a difficult moment, come to the White House. We’re going to honor Sarah,” Trump addressed journalists. “And likewise with Andrew, recover or not.”
Mourners assembled over the past few days at a local school in West Virginia to remember Beckstrom.
Both she and Wolfe had been serving with the state guard as part of Trump’s federal initiative to aid public safety in the capital.
“She was the type of pupil that teachers desired. She behaved with quiet strength, a bright grin and a upbeat demeanor that inspired those around her,” Jarrod Hankins, the leader of Beckstrom’s previous school, informed the Associated Press. “She was kind, considerate and always ready to assist people.”
Service details for Sarah are still being arranged.
Law enforcement have charged a twenty-nine-year-old individual from Afghanistan with a charge of first-degree murder and charges of violent assault while carrying a weapon.
The event caused the administration to pause asylum processing and halt providing visas to owners of Afghan passports.
Wolfe, a native of Martinsburg, began his service in February 2019 and is a graduate of his local high school, according to the news agency.
He remains under medical supervision and is “battling to survive”, the state’s governor the governor said on television.
Attorney general Pam Bondi told Fox News Sunday that she aimed to meet with his relatives.
Sarah, from Summersville, graduated from Webster County High in June 2023 and joined the military shortly after, serving as a military police officer with honor, as stated by the military.
“She had a lot of kindness and she definitely had bravery,” he told the gathering at the service. “Though her life ended too soon, she has left a mark that’s going to be remembered always.”
