Arne Slot Asserts He Is Safe and Has Liverpool's Backing After PSV Defeat

Arne Slot admitted that it's natural for concerns to be raised about his future after a further heavy defeat versus the Dutch champions.

Liverpool suffered their ninth loss in 12 matches, representing the team's worst run after being relegated in 1953-54.

They were dominated by the Dutch league champions on a tough evening at Anfield.

“I am feeling safe, I am OK, I've received plenty of support from the top,” the coach remarked.

“It would be great to change things and earn three points of course but if you are coaching a team and struggling then it is normal that doubts arise.”

He continued, “I am OK with my situation. This isn't the first time I've found myself in a challenging situation but it's necessary that we turned it around.”

Discussions with The Board

When asked to expand on his discussions with the club's leadership, Slot said:

“There's regular dialogue. They are supportive to the team and for me and we discuss these matters but they aren't calling me every single minute each day to say they trust me.”

He added, “During our regular discussions I perceive the trust. However I've not talked to them after this match so far so it remains to be seen.”

Familiar Failings and Player Reaction

The manager highlighted familiar failings from his team in their European loss, specifically missed opportunities and conceding too easily.

Meanwhile, player Jones was more direct in his view of the current crisis.

“I don’t have the answers. Honestly, I do not. I’m saying that to everyone,” the midfielder remarked.

“It's simply not good enough. I don’t even have to wait to reflect. I’m past being angry internally. I’m at the point currently where I simply lack the words.”

He went on, “It's tough because I’m playing for the side I follow. I’m a fan, and I've watched this club since I was young.”

“In recent memory, I've not seen a Liverpool team experiencing a spell like this with outcomes so bad.”

Jones finished, “However we continue to wear that badge on our chest. And as long as that badge is taken away, we will always battle.”

“We will attempt to bring this squad return to where it needs to be, demonstrate to all once more the values of this club and the reason it's called the best team in the planet.”

“However currently, we’re in the shit and it must improve.”
